Tuesdays With Morrie (Emma's Blog)

Tuesdays with Morrie
Mitch Albom
Autobiography
Emma Hutchison

1) If this was a movie, the opening scene would look like:
One of the most striking scenes of this book are when Mitch is watching a televison show, where he sees hid collage professor being interviewed about facing death. Mitch hadn't been in contact with Morrie in years and since then had become a successful journalist. This sudden jolt from his past gives him a chance to reevaluate the path his life has taken. I think this could be a very affective first scene, a shot of an obviously wealthy man, in a large office, typing at an expensive computer while changing channels on a large television. When he begins to realize his old professor is dying if ALS, the shot would flashback to Mitch meeting Morrie at college decades earlier.

2) I would not recommend this book  because i thought (while it was a touching story) it was told in a very cliche and over done way. I found it very predictable that Mitch would reevaluate his life and Morrie would share invaluable wisdom to change  the life of his former student. On the other hand, I did like the way the book was formatted, One chapter for each 'lesson' intertwined with an essay written about Albom's college experience and his first expiriences with Morrie. The fact that a seeming jaded man could once again become fascinated by a man of his youth was heart warmed, but overall I think the story could have held my attention more, and have been written less predictably.

Interesting how you said that the movie would start with a flashback-because I wrote the same thing-but then it seems that many non-fiction books, especially biographies seem to be that way.

Geez, Emma, you only did two questions :P. I like how you mentioned how you didn't like the predictability in your post because if you read my increadably long post, you would have noticed that I also said how much I hated the obvious ending of my book. Good Post!!!

Emma, I particularly enjoyed your proposed opening scene (Even though it was riddled with typos "where he sees HID COLLAGE professor" what's with that!? "a very AFFECTIVE first scene" geez Louise!) The flashback idea was brilliant!
